London’s largest New Year’s Eve celebration is in Victoria Park downtown. New Year’s Eve in the Park is an evening of free, fun, family-friendly entertainment for everyone, and includes two fireworks shows.
Festivities begin at 7 p.m. on December 31 with Canada Life Family Fest. Families can enjoy free outdoor skating, hot chocolate, and take photographs with their favourite superheroes, princesses, and Star Wars characters. The Sweet Adelines, The Thinking Caps, and Ill at Will take the stage at the Victoria Park bandshell, the park’s trees are lit with thousands of holiday lights, and the first fireworks show launches at 9 p.m.
“The Sweet Adelines kick off the evening’s entertainment, and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. the park will be packed with free activities for families,” says Mario Circelli, a member of the New Year’s Eve in the Park organizing committee. “The Thinking Caps produce amazing shows for kids of all ages, and Ill at Will is a local dance troupe that aims to educate youth on the positive aspects of hip hop culture through breakdancing.”
The celebration continues with the Countdown Party from 9 p.m. to midnight. This year’s musical performers include Casper the Ghost featuring Lola, Tell It To Sweeney, and the Forest City London Music Awards All-Star Band. The celebration finishes with a fantastic fireworks display at the stroke of midnight.
Casper the Ghost is an award winning local hip hop artist. Tell It To Sweeney is an electro-swing band and was selected as this year’s winner of the Road to New Year’s Eve contest. The Forest City London Music Awards All-Star Band are award winning local musicians who will be playing Canadian hit songs from the 1980s to present day.
“This one-of-a-kind celebration brings some of London’s best musicians together to play fan favorites all night long.” says Marcus Plowright, New Year’s Eve in the Park chairperson. “Each year, thousands of Londoners come together to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the park downtown, and we are thrilled to present another year of exciting free entertainment.”
London Transit is again offering complimentary bus rides from 8 p.m. on December 31 to 1 a.m. on January 1 (last buses will be leaving downtown at 1 a.m.).
City of London parking lots downtown also allow you to park your car overnight, and pick up your vehicle the next day. If you pay for your parking spot on December 31 in municipal lots until midnight, you can leave your vehicle for free until 1 p.m. on January 1.
On-street parking downtown is free after 6 p.m. on December 31, and is free all day on January 1.
