Provincial Emergency Orders – Clarifying Pet Grooming Business Operations

In a continued effort to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the community, the City of London is providing the following information to help clarify Provincial Orders that impact pet grooming business operations.

Beginning today, the Province of Ontario is allowing pet grooming services to reopen for certain services. These services were previously ordered to be closed during the Provincial State of Emergency and Stay-at-Home Order.

As of today, businesses that offer pet grooming may reopen only to provide services that are strictly necessary to prevent an animal from requiring foreseeable and reasonably imminent veterinary care. This means pet grooming businesses may only provide grooming services to treat conditions that would cause pain or skin disease if left untreated. This includes conditions of severe matting close to the skin, matting with underlying dermatitis, overgrown toenails affecting mobility or causing pain, and anal gland expression. Services must be provided by appointment only with one appointment for one animal at a time, and through curbside pick-up and drop-off of the animal only.

Grooming services that do not fit within this category are not permitted at this time.

The amended regulations for pet grooming businesses are available with the Province of Ontario’s Reopening Ontario Act. Business owners with questions can call the Provincial ‘Stop the Spread’ Business Information Line at 1-888-444-3659.

These temporary measures remain in place to flatten the curve and stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community and across Ontario. Residents with concerns about non-compliance with Provincial Orders can email COVIDOrderConcerns@london.ca or by phone at 519-661-4660.
