Mayor Ed Holder terminates the City of London’s COVID-19 State of Emergency

This morning, London Mayor Ed Holder terminated the municipal State of Emergency originally declared on March 20, 2020, when the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic were first being felt in London and in other Canadian cities.

"I want to thank staff in all community organizations and City departments who have worked tirelessly to support Londoners throughout the pandemic. We have made it through this state of emergency in large part because of your dedication and commitment to keeping our community safe, which has been unwavering,” said Mayor Holder. “The past two years have not been easy. I extend my thanks to all residents and businesses who followed local and Provincial health regulations in the interest of community health and safety. Looking ahead, it will be important that all Londoners continue to be diligent as COVID-19 remains a concern. Together, however, we have now reached a point in the pandemic where we can safely end the state of emergency.”

Declaring an emergency under s 7.0.1 (1) of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act provided London with all options available to protect the health and safety of individuals and families living in the city. The declaration came days after the City of London activated the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and was an important step in the ongoing management of the pandemic emergency in London.
