Cooling centres and cooling resources

During Heat Alerts issued by the Middlesex-London Health Unit, you can access cooling centres and cooling resources across London for relief from extreme heat. For extreme heat information, including tips to reduce the risk of heat-related illness, please visit the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s website. 

Before you visit

Hours and facility availability may change due to statutory holidays, special events, maintenance or seasonal programming. Please contact facilities directly before visiting to confirm hours and availability.

Cooling centres

The following cooling centres provide indoor air-conditioned space, washrooms and water fountains during regular operating hours.

In addition to the locations listed above, Londoners may visit any City community centres during regular operating hours for relief from the heat. Please call 519-661-5575 to confirm hours of operation at community centres.

Spray pads

Spray pads are open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. throughout the summer season. For more information, including locations and closure updates, visit the City’s pools and spray pads webpage or call 519-661-4455.

Park washrooms

Park washrooms are open for the season and are expected to remain open until the end of September. Most washrooms are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Outdoor pools, indoor pools and wading pools

Outdoor and indoor pools are open during regular operating hours and scheduled programming times. Wading pools are also open for the season. Resources for individuals experiencing homelessness 

During heat warnings, outreach services, drop-in spaces and services, emergency shelters and other supports are available to individuals experiencing homelessness.

Outreach services

Outreach teams provide health and wellbeing checks, basic needs support and connections to cooling spaces, shelters and community services during heat warnings.

  • 519Pursuit: Provides health and wellbeing checks, basic needs supplies such as food, water, clothing and toiletries, and connections to services and supports, including information related to cooling spaces available during extreme heat warnings.

  • London Cares: Provides street outreach support to individuals experiencing homelessness, including wellbeing checks, basic needs support, referrals, and connections to services and supports. During extreme heat warnings, outreach staff can support individuals with information about available cooling spaces and help connect people to appropriate supports.

  • Atlohsa Family Healing Services: An Indigenous-led outreach crew providing support with paper-readiness, basic needs, reconnection to culture and community, and system navigation/referrals for Indigenous folks experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

  • Coordinated Informed Response: Supports people experiencing unsheltered homelessness through outreach, refreshments, snacks and connections to shelters and other community services. Teams also respond to encampment concerns and help maintain the cleanliness and safety of public spaces.

Drop-in spaces and services

Drop-in spaces provide access to services such as refreshments, meals, washrooms, showers, social support and cooling space during regular operating hours. Available services vary by location, and some locations may expand services during heat warnings.

  • Ark Aid Street Mission (696 Dundas Street): Ongoing and emergency supports available to help people meet their basic needs and achieve self-sufficiency. 
    Hours: Monday to Friday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Will expand hours during heat alerts as resources permit.

  • London Coffee House (371 Hamilton Road): Provides beverages and snacks, social activities and one-on-one support. May be available as a cooling space during extreme weather alerts.
    Population Served: Adults 16 years and older with limited social or financial resources, including adults with mental health issues
    Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., excluding holidays. Extended hours may be available during extreme weather.

  • My Sisters' Place (566 Dundas Street): Available to individuals who identify as women. Provides drop-in services, nutritious meals, shower and laundry services, computer and phone access, basic needs, cooling space and referrals. 
    Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Weekends and holidays, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

  • The Commons (602 Queens Avenue): A drop-in space operated by London Cares that provides support to individuals experiencing homelessness. Services include access to a cooling space during operating hours, water, washrooms, showers, laundry, basic needs support, system navigation, referrals, and connections to community partners. Weekly partner programs are also offered at The Commons by partnering agencies, including health care and income supports. Please contact London Cares for the current Commons program schedule.
    Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Youth Action Centre (332 Richmond Street): Provides basic needs support, including meals, emergency food bank access, housing search support, laundry and shower facilities, hygiene products, children’s supplies and referrals to community resources.
    Population served: Youth 16 to 24 years old who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness 
    Hours: Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Emergency shelters provide temporary accommodation and supports for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

  • Rotholme Family Shelter (42 Stanley Street): Emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness.

  • YOU Youth Shelter (585 Clarke Road): Emergency shelter available to youth ages 16 to 24 experiencing homelessness.

Violence against women shelters

Violence against women shelters provide emergency shelter and support for women and children experiencing abuse. Services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

  • Anova – Clarke Road Shelter (450 Clarke Road): Emergency and short-term shelter for female-identifying individuals and their children who have experienced gender-based violence. Pet-friendly.
