The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc, City of Sarnia and the City of London are excited to announce that Voyago has been selected as the service provider for the Intercommunity Transit Service. The service is expected to commence in April 2020.
The program will be completely funded until March 2023 by the Government of Ontario through the Ontario Community Transportation Grant program.
Voyago expects to operate three round trips daily and two weekend round trips on fully-accessible buses with an approximate seating capacity of between 20 and 25 passengers.
Route, scheduling and fare information will be available in the New Year.
Voyago, A Transdev Group Company, started operations in London, Ontario in 1979. Voyago currently provides a broad spectrum of transportation services and serves approximately 50,000 daily passengers across Ontario.
Mayor Joanne Vanderheyden, Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc, welcomed the news:
“We’re confident that this contract with Voyago will provide an affordable transportation option that links Strathroy-Caradoc to Sarnia and London.”—Mayor Joanne Vanderheyden, Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc.
Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley said the project is an important step in improving the region’s transit connectivity:
“Another few kilometres down the road on inter-city bus service with the selection of Voyago as the provider. Time to speed up the process and get the service up and running by mid-2020. Important on the next and final step in implementation of the service that it connects to VIA Rail and local transit services to truly be inter-city and multi-use for all users across the region. To do that successfully means engaging rail and transportation advocacy groups across Southwestern Ontario and the citizens using the service.”—Mayor Mike Bradley, City of Sarnia.
London Mayor Ed Holder is happy the project is coming to fruition:
“Improving transportation, specifically getting people to and from work quickly and conveniently, has been an area of intense focus during my term as Mayor. This focus is not only local, it is also regional. With support from the Ontario Government, and Voyago, this investment will connect our communities like never before, while providing new opportunities for employers and job seekers alike.” – Mayor Ed Holder, City of London.
