Subsidized Transit

NEW Income-Related Subsidized Transit Program. Beginning January 1st, 2018

Poverty impacts all of us because a community experiences poverty and cannot reach its potential when people lack or are denied the economic, social or cultural resources to participate.

London for All: A Roadmap to End Poverty, identifies transportation as an area that requires action and focused efforts in order to address associated impacts of poverty.  This includes the opportunity to understand public transit as not only a way to move people around town, but also a way to connect people with the opportunities they need.  London for All also aligns with the Strategic Plan for the City of London, which includes developing strategies to eliminate barriers for individuals facing poverty.

Reducing transit-related costs for people with low income is one way to assist individuals in getting to what and where they need, increases access to programs & services and enables engagement in community life.

On December 19, 2016, City Council approved some changes to the current program for subsidized transit for Londoners. These changes will come into effect on January 1st, 2018.

In 2018, subsidized transit for the blind will remain unchanged. However, subsidized tickets and passes for seniors will no longer be offered.

A new program for subsidized transit will come into effect on January 1, 2018. This new program will offer a $52 monthly bus pass for eligible residents. To qualify for this new program, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. You are a resident of London
  2. You are 18+ years of age (this means that seniors with low-income will be eligible to purchase a subsidized transit pass through this program)
