With over 1,550km of watermain in London's drinking water system, it is sometimes necessary to replace entire sections of pipe. The City's Environmental and Engineering Services Department aims to rebuild approximately 1% of the drinking water system each year in conjunction with the sanitary sewer and storm sewer systems as well as your other utility providers - gas, phone, hydro, etc. These joint projects can be disruptive to the resident or business that reside on the street being reconstructed, but every effort is made to limit the overall effect to their daily lives. Our consultants and contractors try to provide as much notice as possible and work with the residents to make the construction process as painless as possible. A list of all the replacement projects can be found on the City's construction pages.
