Dishwashers are convenient and timesaving - but they can also be water and energy guzzlers.
Dishwashers - Did you know?
New, ENERGY STAR® dishwashers use less than 20.8 L of water per load. Replacing an old and inefficient dishwasher can reduce this water use by nearly 3,790 L, and save energy through the efficient operation of the machine and by using less hot water
Small things you can do to make a big difference:
- Always run the dishwasher with a full load. This will save water, energy, detergent, and money.
- Scrape food scraps into a composter or garbage bin before you load dishes into the dishwasher. Running your tap to rinse off scraps wastes water.
- Choose the most efficient (shortest) cycle possible.
- When buying a new dishwasher, consider the water use, energy requirements, and capacity or each model.
