Ambleside Drive Community Sump Pump Connection Program

The City of London is proposing a voluntary initiative to construct a storm lateral (storm building sewer and storm private drain connection) to connect the sump pump discharge to the municipal storm sewer in the road. The purpose of this program is to reduce the amount of icing in your neighbourhood caused by sump pump discharge.

This page is meant to provide homeowners an update for this project rather than sending out a letter during these uncertain times.

Please check this page for any project updates.

The following shows a timeline of recent project updates:

  • January 10, 2020 – A letter was mailed to targeted homes to provide an initial project overview and to gauge homeowner interest.
  • January 30, 2020 – A drop-in Open House information session was held at the Masonville Public Library to provide further information and to answer questions regarding the project.
  • Mid March, 2020 – Site Visits were conducted to determine which homes were eligible to participate in the program
  • April 7, 2020 – Letters were mailed to homeowners informing them if they are eligible or not for the program. Work Authorization and Consent to Distribute forms were included for eligible homes and are required to be returned to the City via email by April 24th, 2020.

Update - May 22, 2020

The City has put this project out to be publicly tendered and should be receiving tenders by May 28th. If the low bid received is above the City’s allocated budget and not considered cost-effective, the contract may be deferred and/or cancelled (at the sole discretion of the City).

If the contract is awarded, homeowners will receive a letter from the City (by email) regarding the next steps. The contractor responsible for completion of the works will contact participating home owners to arrange site visits to confirm the location for the storm lateral. The contractor will then arrange a time to complete the works. It is anticipated that the works for participating homes will be completed between July and September 2020.
