To keep drivers alert within a school zone, the City of London is installing centreline markers in elementary school areas throughout the City. These flexible in-road traffic calming signs are designed to get drivers out of their comfort zone and to heighten awareness of their surroundings.
Normally placed in the centre of the roadway, between opposing traffic lanes, centreline markers have a narrowing effect on the lane or roadway which can give drivers’ the perception of the need to slow down.
Centreline markers are one of many tools being used to raise awareness of residential speeding in London. Centreline markers will be installed in up to 24 schools zones across the City from May to November.
