Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre

A high quality recreation program for teens with physical and/or developmental disabilities.  This program offers participants ages 12-21 a positive, specialized day camp experience in a safe environment to help increase self-esteem, build independence, and broaden social connections.  Staff to participant ratio will not exceed 1:3.

Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Extended CareAM Program 7:30-9:30 am, PM Program 4:00-5:30 pm

NEW IN 2017 - We are offering youth camp with themed weeks based on specific interests! Learn about and participate in games, activities and trips related to each week's theme. For more information please see below.

Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

Camp will not run on July 2 or August 6

Culinary Week
"What's on your plate!"

  • Potential activities and trips: cooking, baking, cake decorating, food from different cultures, visit local markets, take a cheese tour, or go behind the scenes at local restaurants.

Water Week
"Let's go H2O!"

  • Potential activities and trips: swimming, East Park, fishing, paddle boarding, canoeing, visit the Sifton Bog, Fanshawe lake, the Upper Thames Conservation Authority.

Creative Arts Week
"There's more than drawing!"

  • Potential activities and trips: go to the Grand Theatre, visit an art gallery, explore downtown art, learn more about painting, sketching, clay pot making, photography.

All Sorts of Sports Week
"Come try a variety of games!"

  • Potential activities and trips: participate in traditional (hockey, soccer, baseball, volleyball) and non-traditional (ultimate frisbee, archery, gaga ball) sport, visit the baseball hall of fame, hear from local athletes, visit Labatt park.
