Open Air Burning By-law

The City of London currently allows recreational burning in outdoor fire containers on your property provided the conditions of the Open Air Burning By-law are met.  An information brochure is available for download.

Please read the Open Air Burning By-law for more information.  If a burn permit is required, they are available online.

Open Burning Violations
When a complaint is received regarding open burning, an Inspector or a Fire Crew will respond to inspect the burning conditions. If you are found to be violating the terms of the Open Burning By-law, an order to extinguish and violation notice will be issued. A subsequent response that is found to be violating the by-law will result in an inspection fee of $254.25. You may also be fined subject to fine amounts set out in the by-law.

If you would like to report an open burn that does not meet the requirements of the Open Air Burning By-law, please contact our Administration Office at 519-661-4565 between the hours of 8:00-4:30.  If the concern is outside of these hours, please call our non emergency Communications line at 519-661-5615.

The City of London Open Air Burning By-law does not allow the burning of yard waste and brush.  Please see the City of London garbage pick up schedule for alternatives for disposal of yard waste.  Businesses within the City of London are not permitted to burn at any time.
