Fire Prevention

At present, the Fire Prevention Division is comprised of twelve Fire Inspectors, a Public Information Coordinator, three Certified Public Fire and Life Safety Educators, a Chief Fire Prevention Officer, an Assistant Chief Fire Prevention Officer and clerical staff.

Each Inspector is certified as a Fire Prevention Officer with the Ontario Fire Marshal and are also Certified Fire and Explosion Investigators.   All Inspectors are delegated as an Assistant to the Fire Marshal under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act and Provincial Offenses Officers for the purpose of enforcing the Open Air Burning By-law and the Fireworks By-law and smoke alarm violations.

The London Fire Department is dedicated to providing residents and businesses with effective fire prevention programs.  Our Inspectors conduct annual inspections of commercial, industrial and residential buildings, review site and building plan submissions, respond to complaints about life safety issues, and when required will prosecute for lack of compliance.  They also conduct cause and origin investigations on fires for which a cause is not immediately evident or which results in an injury or death.  Our Life Safety Educators are in the community providing fire and injury prevention programs to schools, seniors centres, workplaces and more.

The Fire Prevention Division is open from 08:00 am until 4:30 pm Monday to Friday and is closed on statutory holidays.
