The City of London has completed a Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study for Wharncliffe Road South between Commissioners Road and Becher Street. The purpose of this Class EA was to build on the City’s Transportation Master Plan and develop a Recommended Plan and Preliminary Design for improvements within the study area.
The Wharncliffe Road South Class EA recently received approval from the Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks, allowing the City to move forward with implementation.
Wharncliffe Road South improvements are being proposed in two phases:
Phase 1 will include the replacement of the CN Rail bridge, the addition of a new northbound lane from Horton Street to Becher Street, and improvements at the Horton Street / Wharncliffe Road South intersection. The City is moving forward into the design of Phase 1, with construction anticipated to follow.
Phase 2, from Springbank Drive south to Commissioners Road, will include reconstruction of the existing roadway improving travel lanes, sidewalks and intersections. This Phase is planned for longer-term implementation (10 to 15 years).
