Pottersburg and Vauxhall Sewershed Optimization

TREATMENT OPTIMIZATION OF THE VAUXHALL AND POTTERSBURG SEWERSHEDS
MUNICIPAL CLASS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT MASTER PLAN
PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE

The City of London has completed a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) Master Plan to evaluate the feasibility of interconnecting the Vauxhall and Pottersburg sewersheds as part of a long term servicing strategy to provide additional operation flexibility and facilitate further upgrades as the assets approach the end of their service life.

The Master Plan process included public and agency consultation, an evaluation of solutions, assessment of potential impacts and identification of measures to mitigate any adverse impacts. As part of the consultation program, one public meeting was held to provide information on the project and to receive comments.

The preferred alternative for this project provides permanent pumping infrastructure for transmission of flows between the two plants (WWTPs). The project will include the installation of two 400 mm to 600 mm diameter pipes and a smaller 150 mm diameter pipe, approximately 2.3km in length in the same trench connecting the Vauxhall WWTP and Pottersburg WWTP. A pump station will be located within the fence line of each WWTP, although project phasing and developments during detailed design may modify the terms of construction projects to implement the preferred alternative, and pipe sizes may change slightly. The figure below illustrates the preferred force main alignment.
