The City of London would like to remind residents to stay off stormwater management ponds.
A stormwater management pond is a constructed facility that is designed to improve surface water quality, provide flood protection, and reduce erosion in downstream watercourses. It is not a natural pond. These stormwater ponds can be found in many neighbourhoods and subdivisions across the city, often in parks.
With unpredictable ice thickness and a continuous flow of water, stormwater ponds are unsafe for recreational uses such as skating, hockey, fishing or tobogganing. For safety, residents are encouraged to keep off the ice.
