As an additional legislated measure to reduce the risk of further COVID-19 infections in the community, a by-law is being introduced for City Council consideration, to temporarily require the use of face coverings within enclosed publicly-accessible spaces and require the posting of signage by business operators.
The report and by-law are available here: https://bit.ly/32rCm7l
The by-law has been developed together with, and on the recommendations of, the Medical Officer of Heath, following Council direction to Civic Administration. At the July 14 meeting of the Strategic Priorities and Planning Committee, Council directed staff to consult with the County of Middlesex and the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Chris Mackie, and to bring forward, for consideration at the earliest opportunity by Municipal Council, any legislative measures that the Medical Officer of Health recommends the City of London should enact to reduce the risk of further COVID-19 infections within the City of London, including the possibility of a temporary municipal bylaw requiring the wearing of masks or face coverings in enclosed public spaces.
London City Council will be considering the by-law on the temporary requirement to use face coverings within enclosed publicly-accessible spaces at a special Strategic Priorities and Planning Committee meeting on Monday, July 20 at 4:00 p.m.
Public comments on the proposed by-law can be submitted to the Strategic Priorities and Policy Committee by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
