The City of London is hosting its first Emergency Management Citizen’s Academy giving Londoners the opportunity to learn firsthand about emergency management programs in their community. Students participate in both classroom and hands on sessions facilitated by staff from the City of London’s Corporate Security and Emergency Management division.
“Citizen’s Academy provides residents a valuable educational opportunity to connect with the City’s emergency management programs,” says Henry Klausnitzer, Manager of Emergency Management at the City of London. “Citizen’s Academy is particularly engaging to anyone who volunteers in the community, or is a member of a local community association, group, or organization.”
Participants will tour the City’s Emergency Operations Centre, learn what to include in a 72 hour emergency kit, and how to identify and respond to potential hazards. Participants graduate from the program with tools and information that they can share with their community, family, and friends.
The first session of the Citizen Academy is taking place on October 30, 2019 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m at the Emergency Operations Centre (275 Boler Road, London, Ontario).
Registration is free and open until Monday, October 21, 2019. Londoners can register by contacting Amy Leggate at firstname.lastname@example.org
