Blackfriars Bridge lift

The process of lifting and removing Blackfriars Bridge is expected to commence on Monday, November 27 (weather permitting) and could take up to 24 hours.

The City of London has installed cameras and recruited a team to capture the entire process. The process will take a long time so a full time lapsed video will be launched following the removal to create an opportunity for Londoners to watch from the comfort of their home.

Live video clips will also be posted on the City of London’s Facebook page and Twitter page on the day of the lift. Once the bridge is removed, regular construction updates will be made available on

It has been necessary to close the pathways in the area of the bridge so opportunities to observe the events in person are limited. Please remember that unauthorized entry of this construction site is a hazardous activity. To ensure your safety, we ask for your cooperation in respecting the fenced construction zone. Security will be present to direct viewers to safe viewing areas along the Thames Valley Parkway (TVP).
