Say No to Hunger and Support the 21st Annual London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive

The London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive kicks off its 21st year of collecting food donations for the London Food Bank this Friday, June 9. Londoners have been incredibly generous over the last 20 years, donating 1,281,020 pounds of non-perishable donations to Canada’s longest running and most unique food drive.
Participation in the London Cares Curb Hunger Food Drive is easy. Between June 9-17, Londoners can buy a few extra non-perishable food donations and leave them at their neighbourhood grocery store, bring items to their local fire station, or place their donations in a bag tied with a ribbon and set-out beside their Blue Box in the morning of their recycling day. New this year is the option to sign up for the Plant a Row - Grow a Row program at Gardeners are encouraged to plant a row of produce for the Food Bank, and donate it at harvest time.
“There are still so many Londoners in need. Our community delivers year after year and I know 2017 will be no different,” said Mayor Matt Brown. “We know that a good meal is key to a good day at school or work. Please consider helping in any way you can.”

“The need for food donations continues to grow each year. The 300 families a month we helped in 1986, over 30 years ago - has grown tenfold to an average of 3,467 families per month in 2016,” said Jane Roy, Co-Executive Director of the London Food Bank. “In 2017, we continue the focus on increasing donations of fresh food. Growing an extra row in your garden this year is a great way to help those in London that need the extra help."

43,430 pounds of food donations were delivered to the London Food Bank in 2016 from curbside collection, corporate donations, grocery store and fire station donation bins.
All food collected by the Food Drive is donated to the London Food Bank. This is a necessary service for those who need a helping hand to get through difficult periods of their lives.
