The Area Boundaries
The SoHo area is generally bounded by the Canadian National
Railway to the north, the Thames River to the south and west and Adelaide Street
to the east.
(Map to the right shows area included in the Community Improvement
Plan) |
 |
Purpose
On May 25, 2009, Municipal Council directed staff to initiate
a Community Improvement Plan (CIP) process for this neighbourhood.
It is a
primary goal of this CIP to stimulate reinvestment, reveal and inspire
appropriate infill opportunities and intensification, coordinate planning
efforts, harmonize the delivery of physical and social services, preserve neighbourhood and heritage character and lead to the establishment of a
world-class near-Downtown neighbourhood. Urban Design will also play a strong
role in the overall focus of this CIP.
 |
Introduction to SoHo SoHo is a vibrant area that has strong links to the downtown, the Thames River,
inner-city neighbourhoods and major commercial and transportation corridors that
connect vehicular, pedestrian, transit, cyclist and rail movement through and to
this neighbourhood.
It is also an area that is subject to land use transition
and will undergo some major changes and challenges with the devolution of the
Old Victoria Hospital South Street Campus site, the recent growth of social
service facilities and providers in this area, and the presence of a major
industrial employer (Labatt's Brewery) within the western portion of the study
area. |
