LCBO Deposit Return

The Ontario Government has put in place a Deposit Return Program for all wine and spirit containers. This program began February 5, 2007. Ontario residents will pay a deposit on all wine and spirit containers.

Should I participate in the Ontario Deposit Return Program?

Yes. Residents are encouraged to return wine and spirit containers to Brewers Retail for a refund at their own convenience.  The "Bag it Back" website provides further details including the location of the nearest Brewers Retail store to you.

Can I continue to recycle wine and spirit containers?

Yes. Wine and spirit containers that were previously accepted for recycling will continue to be accepted at the curbside or in your building recycling cart until further notice.

What about scavenging from recycling containers?

City of London WM-12 By-law prohibits the removal of recyclable material that has been placed out for collection. Any person who contravenes this by-law is guilty of an offence and, on conviction, is liable to a fine as provided for in the Municipal Act, 2001. If you witness scavenging of recyclable materials you may report this by calling our offices at 519 661-2500 ext. 8413 and leaving a message including your name, phone number, the location/address and time of the incident, and a description/license plate number.
