Be a part of the busting process
Year one begins with an intensive effort to remove all
seed bearing plants, and the management of immature plants. Areas where
buckthorn has been removed may then be replanted with suitable native
shrubs.
The second and third years will require monitoring and control
of emergent seedlings, as buckthorn seeds remain viable for up to six
years.
Success in the first three years means the amount of work
required to contain the buckthorn should be less as the restoration of
native seedlings begins a positive trend towards a healthy forest.
