On June 18, 2012, the Planning and Environment Committee will
receive the Near-Campus Neighbourhoods Planning Amendments report
which will include proposed amendments to the Official Plan and
Zoning By-law. These amendments have been modified from the October
2009 draft amendments based on the circulation of that report to
various stakeholders for feedback and comment. This report
represents a component of the Implementation Plan adopted by
Municipal Council and the amendments have been proposed to implement
the Council’s vision and goals for neighbourhoods surrounding
Western University and Fanshawe College.
On October 5, 2009, Municipal Council will receive the Near-Campus
Neighbourhoods Planning Amendments report which will include draft
amendments to the Official Plan, Zoning By-law, and Site Plan
Control By-law. This report represents a component of the
Implementation Plan adopted by Municipal Council and will be
circulated to various stakeholders for feedback and comment prior to
the report being brought forward to a public meeting at the Planning
Committee with a recommendation to adopt the proposed amendments
with any modifications, if necessary.
On November 17, 2008, Municipal Council
adopted the “Great Near-Campus Neighbourhoods Strategy” as well as
the Implementation Plan to implement the 10 strategic initiatives
designed to close the gap between the vision and the existing
conditions in the City’s Near-Campus Neighbourhoods.
On March 3, 2008, Municipal Council received a DRAFT report from
the Planning and Development Department entitled, "Closing the Gap:
New Partnerships for great neighbourhoods surrounding Our
Universities and Colleges."
The report
- Proposes to define a “Near-Campus Neighbourhoods Area”
- Proposes amendments which are intended to implement the vision for
these defined Near-Campus Neighbourhoods to clarify Council’s
long-term intent for these Neighbourhoods
- Proposes amendments which are intended to establish land use
planning goals for these defined Neighbourhoods
- Proposes amendments to provide guidance for appropriate locations,
forms, and concentrations of intensification in these defined
Neighbourhoods
- Proposes amendments to provide policies and planning tools that
will be used in the review of planning applications for lands within
these defined Neighbourhoods
