Parking
Our parking service strives to balance the availability of residential street
parking between the needs of residents and the needs of the greater
transportation and commercial community.
This is done by amending the Traffic & Parking By-law or developing new programs
to address the needs of the public .
The City manages approximately 20% of available parking in the downtown.
In addition, approximately 1,160 stalls are available in other municipal parking
garages and 8,500 private off-street stalls. Usage of the on-street
metered parking in the downtown ranges from 31% to 100% with an average usage of
81%.
This group is responsible for the enforcement of 70 parking related offences
in the Traffic & Parking By-law, Unauthorized Area Parking By-Law and the Parks
& Recreation Area By-law. Enforcement is monitored on an ongoing basis and direction is
given as need to target problem areas/offences and to address other issues.
All tickets are issued to comply with the appropriate by-law and the Provincial
Offences Act.
