The Corporation of The City of London
May 24, 2012
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Pipeline Break - UPDATE - 1:45 p.m.
Repair crews fixing the Lake Huron
water transmission pipeline are currently in the process of
opening valves to begin filling and flushing the isolated section of the
pipeline.
Normal operating conditions for the City of London are not anticipated until
early morning on Friday (May 25) so voluntary water restrictions remain in
place. Residents are asked to continue to reduce water use both indoors and
outdoors. City spray pads remain closed today.
Due to the length of pipeline that was required to be isolated in order to
complete this repair, filling and flushing operations will continue into the
afternoon. This is a critical period in the recovery operations and requires
several hours to complete to ensure the pipeline doesn’t fail while the system
is being restored to full operation.
Reinstatement of supply to area municipalities is not anticipated to start until
late afternoon, at which time depleted storage reservoirs must be replenished
before full service is restored. The lifting of water use restrictions will be
undertaken in a staged approach, as reservoirs throughout the region recover and
service is restored to each municipality.
The Lake Huron Primary Water Supply System is requesting all area municipalities
to continue water use reductions.
