The Corporation of The City of London
May 23, 2012
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Water use restrictions requested
The City of London is requesting all residents and businesses implement water
use reductions in response to a break on the transmission pipeline between the
water treatment plant near Grand Bend and the City of London.
In response to this emergency, the supply to the City of London from the Elgin
Area water supply system has been increased, however in order to maintain
adequate storage of water in area reservoirs, the City is requesting all water
customers to voluntarily reduce their consumption of water.
City services such as splash pads will be affected and will remain off for
Wednesday May 23 and possibly Thursday May 24 in order to reduce non-essential
water use around the City.
Water use reductions
At a minimum, the following water use reductions are recommended:
-
No outdoor water use including car washing, irrigation, pool/hot tub filling.
- Limit or postpone indoor residential use of water. Consider using
dishwashers and clothes washers after the emergency period has ended.
- Take a brief shower rather than a bath, or consider delaying until after the
emergency period has ended.
- Reduce toilet flushing as much as possible. Consider flushing the toilet
every second use.
- Suspend unnecessary use of water for industrial or commercial
establishments, as well as construction sites, such as washing operations.
