City of London joins annual Koats for Kids campaign

The City of London is making winter a little warmer for families in our community, by partnering in the Boys & Girls Club of London annual “Koats for Kids” drive.

The drive, which began in early October, appeals to the public for donations of used kids’ coats that are in good condition. Clothing articles can be dropped off at various locations throughout the city, now including the following City of London sites:

• City Hall - main lobby
• Market Tower - 151 Dundas Street (at Richmond), 2nd floor
• Argyle Arena - 1948 Wavell St.
• Stronach Arena - 1221 Sandford Street
• Carling Arena - 675 Grosvenor Street
• Kinsmen Arena - 20 Granville Ave
• Earl Nichols Arena - 799 Homeview Road
• Lambeth Arena - 7112 Beattie St., Lambeth
• Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre - 656 Elizabeth Street

Mayor Fontana is excited to see the "Koats for Kids" program expanded to include City sites. He says, “Our community locations are perfect drop off spots and I know City staff are looking forward to taking an active role in helping get more of our kids bundled up against the winter cold. I encourage all Londoners to look for those coats and boots that they no longer need, but could keep another child snug and warm this season. Get them out now and down to a drop off location. I’m heading out to get mittens – kids always lose their mittens.”

In addition to the new City of London locations, donations can also be dropped off at London Police Service headquarters, participating local businesses, dry cleaners or the Boys & Girls Club.

The Boys & Girls Club welcomes donations of new or used kids’ coats in good condition, and hats, mittens and gloves, boots and snowpants of any size. The deadline for donations is Monday, November 5.

Each year, just over 5,000 pieces of clothing - including coats, heavy winter sweaters, hats and mitts, scarves and boots - are collected and provided to London families in need. Distribution of 2012 kids’ coats will take place Saturday, November 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, November 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information please contact the Club at 519-434-9114.
