West Woodfield Heritage Conservation District
London's Heritage Buildings And Structures

West Woodfield HomeThe term "Woodfield" refers to a geographic area which has been identified as a downtown neighbourhood by area residents and recognized as such by the Planning Department. Historically, the Woodfield neighbourhood developed as a result of the city's expansion north and eastward.  Within Woodfield, the last Woodfield Heritage Conservation District was established in 193 and, at present, an investigation is underway to consider an heritage conservation district for the West Woodfield area.

Location

The West Woodfield Heritage Conservation District has an irregular shape and is located directly west of the existing East Woodfield Heritage Conservation District. The specific study area is bounded by Richmond Street to the west, Dufferin and Queens Avenue to the south, Maitland Street, and Peter Street to the east and Central and Pall Mall Streets to the south.  These initial boundaries include approximately 500 properties, primarily residential, but also commercial, retail and office as well as churches and other institutional uses and a large urban park.

West Woodfield Heritage Conservation District Study

The West Woodfield Heritage Conservation District Study is currently being undertaken on behalf of the City of London by Stantec Consulting in association with Nexus Architects, Ecoplans Limited and Mike Baker to review an area close to the Downtown known as the West Woodfield Area with a well established architectural history.

The Study is a two-phase process, whereby Phase 1 focuses on background research and examination of the history and architecture to determine if the area warrants designation as a Heritage Conservation District based on the City’s Official Plan criteria.  Phase 2 of the study is the preparation of a Heritage Conservation District Plan for the area identified in Phase 1. The Plan will provide policy direction and strategies to conserve and enhance the character of the Heritage Conservation District.
