For more information, refer to the Waste Management By-Law (WM-12) (PDF) which governs the collection of municipal garbage, recyclables and yard materials or to Various Fees and Charges By-Law (PDF) which governs fees for the waste management system.  For recycling and reuse of other items found around the house, please see our information flyer (PDF) for a few suggestions. Try Recycling is open for business all year.  Note: Try Recycling Depot DOES NOT accept garbage.

 

Description of Acceptable Items

Blue Box Recyclables

  • paper and cardboard: boxes such as clean pizza boxes and appliance and packing boxes (empty and flattened), newspapers, catalogues, computer paper, flyers, envelopes, magazines, phone books, white and light coloured writing paper, egg cartons
  • containers: rigid food, beverage and liquid containers; milk & juice cartons, drink boxes, cardboard cans (i.e. frozen juice and spiral wound containers), aluminum and steel containers, empty aerosol cans, empty paint cans, aluminum foil and pie plates, glass bottles and jars and plastic bottles and tubs with the number 1 through 7 on the bottom of the container.

Yard Materials

  • plant trimmings, grass clippings ($1.50 per bag), leaves, brush & branches - cut to a length of less than 1 metre (39") and less than 10 cm (4") in diameter
  • The EnviroDepots will accept pumpkins for composting. Residents that receive curbside leaf and yard material collection can also set their Hallowe'en pumpkin out on the same collection week. Remove the candle and any metal or plastic from the pumpkin and place in the same container with yard materials or fall leaves. Pumpkins are heavy, so be sure the container is not over the weight limit of 20 kilograms (44 pounds).

Household Special Waste (HSW)

  • paint, turpentine, gasoline, batteries, cleaners, bleach, pesticides, poisons, acids, drain cleaners, oil, propane tanks, etc.  Some household items such as paint, batteries, fluorescent lights, pharmaceuticals & sharps are also accepted for disposal/recycling at other locations in the city.  For further reference and alternate disposal locations in your neighbourhood, visit the Orange Drop website.

Electronics

  • Computers, printers, radios, stereos, cameras, VCRs, video games, televisions, computer monitors, cell phones, remote control toys, etc.  For more electronics recycling options and drop-off locations in your neighbourhood, visit the Recycle Your Electronics website.

Renovation, Construction and Roofing Materials

  • concrete, rubble, asphalt, drywall, wood, carpet, vinyl flooring, ceramic tile, toilets, sinks, bathtubs, pane glass, insulation, ceiling tiles, etc.

Scrap Metal

  • barbeques, bicycle frames, tire rims, swing sets, fences, posts, car parts, etc.

Household Garbage

  • bagged household garbage can be dropped off for a fee at the EnviroDepot
  • bagged household garbage and bulky items (such as matresses, couches, etc) can be dropped off for a fee at the W12A Landfill

Goodwill Donation Centre - Oxford Street Community EnviroDepot

  • Goodwill accepts gently used items that are in saleable condition, including clothing, shoes, books, housewares and more. For more information, visit Goodwill Industries.
  • furniture & appliances are not accepted at this particular Goodwill Donation Centre.
  • your donations go towards providing jobs, job training, and job placement services in our community.

Refrigerators and Appliances

  • Refrigerant & Freon containing appliances (fridges, freezers, water coolers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers) may be delivered to the City Community EnviroDepots or the W12A Landfill Site for recycling; there is no charge to the London resident.  Or contact the saveONenergy Fridge and Freezer Pick Up Program for the details of their program at 1 877-797-9473 or at http://www.londonhydro.com/energyconservation/fridgeandfreezerpickup/
