Fireworks Safety

Fireworks are a beautiful and entertaining way to celebrate a variety of occasions. Before you put on a show, make sure to follow a few important safety tips:

  • Always read and follow the label directions.

  • Buy your fireworks from a reliable source.

  • Stay away from illegal fireworks.

  • An adult should always be present to supervise fireworks activities.

  • Always have water nearby (garden hose and bucket).

  • The fireworks shooter should always wear eye protection.

  • Ignite the fireworks from a bucket of sand.

  • Ignite fireworks outdoors, away from vehicles and buildings, and one at a time.

  • Never re-ignite an explosive that did not go off properly the first time.

  • Never experiment or make your own fireworks.

  • Don't give fireworks to small children.

  • Dispose of fireworks responsibly by soaking them in water and putting them in a trash can.

The City of London has a by-law which regulates the storage, sale and use of fireworks.
