 How we recruit & hire

Looking for a career in public service? Find out how our recruitment process works at the City of London.

Applying

To apply, simply review Current Career Opportunities, and select your desired position. Applications are assessed based on the information submitted and the answers provided to job-related questions. It is important that you provide full details of your education, work experience and credentials. This information assists us in determining the candidates best qualified for the position. The more complete your submission, the easier it will be to assess your skills, abilities and qualifications.

A wide range of resources are available - many online - to assist you in preparing your resume and interviewing for a career opportunity. There's helpful information to be gained whether you are new to the employment market or ready to move ahead in your career.

Application review

Applications submitted are reviewed by a Human Resources representative and hiring manager. Based on predetermined criteria, applications are assessed and interview candidates identified. We appreciate all applications; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Candidate interviews

Depending on the position, candidates may have a number of interviews with the Human Resource representative, hiring manager and other City of London representatives. Interviews may include various testing, presentations, behavioural based and/or situational questions.

Candidates invited to an interview are required to provide a Criminal Record Search* and may be asked to bring other documents such as the following:

  • Copy of educational transcripts (Note: It may be necessary to have an assessment of professional and academic training you've received in another country.)

  • Proof of professional certification/licences specified in the career opportunity

  • Letters of reference - work-related and/or personal

For information on how to apply for a Criminal Record Search please visit the City of London Police Services website. This search is a hiring requirement and undertaken at the candidate's own expense.
