Poll worker opportunities

Election logoBecoming a poll worker is a great way to serve your community and learn more about the elector process. The City of London is currently seeking interested applicants for the positions of Election Assistant, Poll Clerk and Deputy Returning Officer. You'll find details of these three positions below. Please note that candidates, relatives of candidates, or persons campaigning for a candidate in the upcoming Municipal Election are not eligible for these opportunities.

If you are interested in working at the polls on October 25, please complete the application form which is available online or may be obtained at the Elections Office on the 1st floor of City Hall. Your completed application can be mailed or hand delivered to the Elections Office at 300 Dufferin Avenue, London ON  N6B 1Z2. Election Assistant

  • No experience required
  • Required to attend a 2.5 hour training session at City Hall
  • Required to work up to 12 hours on Election Day
  • Election Day duties include welcoming voters, ensuring voters are carrying appropriate identification, directing voters to the correct polling station, and assisting in the accommodation of persons with disabilities
  • Remuneration for this position is $115

 

Poll Clerk
 

  • No experience required
  • Required to attend 2.5 hour training session at City Hall
  • Required to work 12-14 hours on Election Day
  • Election Day duties include requesting voter identification and finding names on the voters list
  • Remuneration for this position is $140

Deputy Returning Officer
 

  • Experience required, must have worked an election before
  • Required to have the sole use of a vehicle on Election Day
  • Required to attend a 2.5 hour training session at City Hall
  • Required to work 12-14 hours on Election Day
  • Must be able to lift and carry a supply bag weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Duties include picking up poll supplies at a central location, preparing polling station, ensuring the smooth running of the polling station, and returning ballots, forms and supplies to central location.
  • Remuneration for this position is $180
