Downtown Core Summit: Investing in Our Future

Summary of Feedback - Public Meeting held on April 27, 2011

On April 27, 2011, London Mayor Joe Fontana along with members of City Council and partners, Downtown London and Covent Garden Market, gathered together with over 200 local citizens to discuss the next evolution of London's downtown and the creation of new energy centres including a possible new location for London City Hall.

Participants were asked to consider the following questions:

1. What would result in a "game changer" for Downtown London with the public investment to be made in the next London City Hall?
2. Where in the downtown should an "energy centre" like that be?
3. What partners or linkages can maximize the results of public and private investment?

In a concurrent initiative, the City is finalizing its Downtown Master Plan Study.  In the words of one of the participants:

"Downtown is a journey, not a destination".

Many of the ideas regarding future development of the Downtown Core, provided at the April 27th Summit, are relevant to the Master Plan and will be incorporated into the Master Plan Study.  A very wide range of topics covering were tabled, debated and discussed and the results will be used to inform the next report to Council addressing options for City Hall, expected in the Fall of 2011.
