Emergency Management
Our division focuses on ensuring the City is prepared to respond as a team to major emergencies that may occur within our community. Emergency Management staff work with community agencies to facilitate London's plans to deal with major emergencies and disasters.
Key Activities:
-
Emergency Management Program - This division liaises with the departments, divisions, agencies and businesses to develop and maintain an appropriate level of community preparedness.
-
Emergency Response Plan Maintenance - The City of London Emergency Response Plan outlines roles and responsibilities of essential services to ensure that essential services are provided to the Community throughout the emergency. It describes the roles and responsibilities for the Mayor and other corporate officers. It also spells out how the City co-ordinates with community agencies such as hospitals, schools, utilities, telephone and volunteer groups including the Red Cross, Salvation Army and St. John Ambulance. Emergency Management staff work closely with all agencies to ensure this plan is kept up-to-date and coordinated with other sub-plans, agency plans and departmental operating procedures.
-
Provincial Legislation Compliance - London must comply with Provincial legislation on emergency management. Our division is responsible for monitoring provincial requirements, and reporting on those issues to senior management and elected officials.
-
Presentations and Displays - Public awareness and education in an important part of our activities, especially during National Emergency Preparedness Week in May.
-
Training and Exercises - Emergency management training and exercises are facilitated through this office, helping to ensure that participants are well prepared to carry out their responsibilities in an emergency.
-
Corporate Emergency Procedures - Staff of the emergency management office assist with development of building and departmental emergency procedures.
