Co-Ops

Co-Op students are hired in a variety of positions across our organization for different employment lengths. Opportunities are generally posted on our job postings site and follow our regular recruitment process. For some Co-Op positions, we work exclusively with educational institutions (e.g. Fanshawe) to market the opportunity and select candidates. Co-Ops are a great way to grow your future, by gaining experience in your chosen field, building your skills, networking and establishing workplace references.

Check out what some of our past Co-Op Students have to say about their experiences with us.

Development Engineering

I wanted hands on engineering experience and to apply what I’d learned in school to the real world. I wanted to be able to clarify my goals and discover my working style while gaining experience with a reputable employer. I’ve gained so much insight into the big picture of how things are done; doing real life things! I’ve been learning not only how to do the job, but also more about me as an individual. Everyone is really friendly and always open to answer any questions, teach me new skills and help when needed. It’s a very inclusive environment and I feel very comfortable here.

I was interested to gain experience in the planning and development sector and to be able to apply what I learned at school to real world scenarios. I wanted to be part of a work environment that fosters growth and gain valuable work experience with a respected organization. It’s been great working with a large team of professionals, all with individual specialties but who are able to bring them together in a unified position. I’ve gained so much more knowledge in my subject area and feel great that I can make a lasting difference in the city which I have called home all my life.

It has been great to be able to work in a professional environment, use the programs that I studied in college, improve my knowledge and build my experiences. I’ve been able to work with very friendly colleagues and supervisors who always welcome me to ask questions and answer nicely. I’ve been able to see the results of my work and feel proud to be part of positive change for the city I live in.

I sought out a co-op with the City to gain experience working in the environmental field and to be part of the workforce that contributes to monitoring human impacts on the environment. The training I’ve received on various test and procedures has added greatly to my technical skills. I’ve enjoyed the supportive learning environment, with kind and considerate colleagues that make the workday enjoyable and productive.
