Internships


Under our Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Plan, we offer two types of paid internships focused toward new immigrants, foreign trained professionals, persons with disabilities and recent post-secondary graduates. Meaningful work assignments and formal feedback ensure that you are able to grow your skills, build your portfolio and come away with solid references. These positions are hosted in a variety of positions across our organization and are a great way to give you a competitive edge to jump start your career. Past interns have been placed in the following areas: Parks and Recreation, Human Resources, Forestry, Planning, Solid Waste, Fire Services, Social Services, Facilities, City Clerk’s Office.

Internship Details

Up to Four Month Internship:

  • 6 positions per year
  • Intake typically January and September
  • Focused toward persons with disabilities, new immigrants, recent post-secondary graduates

Eligibility Criteria

New immigrants:

  • New to Canada within the past 3 years
  • Graduate of a recognized post-secondary education institute with Canadian equivalency
  • English benchmark level 6 or above
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada

Persons with self-declared disabilities which pose employment barriers:

  • Limited work experience in their chosen field
  • Graduate of a recognized post-secondary education institute
  • Connected with an academic or employment support agency

Recent local post-secondary graduate:

  • London resident who has graduated from a recognized post-secondary education institute within the past year
  • OR graduate of a London area recognized post-secondary education institute within the past year, but not currently living in London
  • Limited work experience in their chosen field

Up to One Year Internship:

  • 2 positions per year
  • Intake typically January
  • Focused toward foreign trained professionals working toward obtaining their accreditation

Eligibility Criteria

  • Graduate of a recognized post-secondary education institute with Canadian equivalency
  • Working on obtaining Canadian accreditation in their chosen profession
  • Experience working in the chosen profession in their home country
