About Michael

Councillor Michael van Holst was born in 1962 and moved to London when he was nine.  He is married with two grown stepdaughters and lives in ward one.  He graduated from Oakridge Secondary school, has a chemical engineering degree from the University of Waterloo and an education degree from UWO.

He works for the TVDSB and prior to becoming a Councillor he taught math, physics, chemistry and environmental science for a decade at the St. Thomas Adult Learning Centre.  Other work experience includes engineering, business tax accounting, trades and IT.  

Fun Fact: Michael loves entertaining.  In the early 80’s, he played saxophone in the Canada’s Wonderland clown band. In the 90’s, he twice won Yuk Yuk’s funniest person in London contest and was part of the TV sketch-comedy troop Channel Surfing at Rogers.  Since Y2K, he has been very involved with local stage productions and has hosted both of London’s theatre award ceremonies.
