The City of London's Vacant Land Inventory (VLI) tracks potential development land under two different main categories; "Residential" Vacant Land and "Industrial, Commercial, Institutional" Vacant Land. The Vacant Land Inventories focus on lands within the Urban Growth Boundary and are updated annually.
The VLI provides a snapshot in time, and each update reviews the following information:
- subdivision and condominium applications received during the year (where the status of land changes from "potential development" to an application. Units or hectares are updated for the subject lands based on best available information;
- lands removed from the inventory as a result of re-classification as non-development (due to further environmental review, stormwater management facilities, roads, etc.);
- subdivision design modifications resulting from the approvals process, and;
- removal of lands subject to an issued building permit (assumed to be 'developed').
