The existing South-East Byron Area Plan was approved in 1992. A Secondary Plan has been undertaken by Harrington McAvan Ltd on behalf of the City in 2018-19.
On July 26, 2016, Municipal Council directed that a draft Terms of Reference for the Byron Gravel Pits Secondary Plan be circulated for review and comment prior to its consideration at a future meeting of the Planning and Environment Committee. The 76 hectare (188 acre) Study Area is bounded by Colonel Talbot Road to the west, Byron Baseline Road to the north, and the rear property boundaries of the Byron pits to the south and the east.
The purpose of the Secondary Plan is to undertake a comprehensive review of the Byron Gravel Pits and the surrounding area to determine the most appropriate future land uses for the site. The Secondary Plan will also consider the future servicing requirements, transportation, and open space and environmental matters in determining the future land uses in the Study Area.
A public Open House is scheduled for December 20th from 6 to 9 at the Bostwick Community Centre to discuss the future vision of the gravel pits.
