About us
Our Committee reports to the Municipal Council, through the
Community Services Committee. The appointment of the Committee's nine voting members - and its supporting community resource group - is concurrent with the Municipal Council's term of office. On this page you'll find information on the role and responsibilities of the Committee and how to apply if you are interested in serving on the LDRRAC or other City of London Committees.
Our Committee's purpose and responsibilities
The mandate of the LDRRAC, set out by Municipal Council, is as follows:
A committee of individuals, appointed by City Council, to provide leadership on matters related to diversity, inclusivity, equity and the elimination of discrimination in the City of London.
The London Diversity and Race Relations Advisory Committee (LDRRAC) shall be responsible for the following:
- To provide consultation, advise, report findings and make recommendations to City Council as necessary or at such times as Council may deem desirable, on matters of discrimination as defined by the Ontario Human Rights Code and matters related to diversity, inclusivity and equity in the City of London;
- To work actively with police services, education, community groups, municipal organizations, social services, business, labour and government agencies in order to facilitate a stronger understanding of the needs of the city's (London's) diverse populations;
- To advise the City in the development, maintenance and refinement of policies and practices that facilitates an inclusive and supportive work environment. This includes, but is not limited to, human resource policies related to recruitment, hiring, training, and promotion that provide equal opportunity for members of London's diverse populations.
- To initiate and participate in the development of new policies and programs or the refinement of existing ones, related to matters of discrimination, diversity, inclusivity and equity in the city of London.
- To be a source of information on community resources available to assist those who have enquiries regarding issues of discrimination. This includes but is not limited to complaints of acts of prejudice, racism and hate.
You'll find the context for the Committee's mandate and responsibilities in the City of London's Race Relations Policy and Diversity Policy - both of which can be found on the city's website.
Committee Membership
LDRRAC is composed of both voting and non-voting members. The committee's voting members are citizens who have applied to sit on the advisory committee, while the non-voting members are individuals who have been nominated by their respective organizations to sit on the committee as resource members.
